Liam
Our Chairman, Liam Hannigan decided to organise a small flotilla on St. Patricks Day 2009 to raise some funds for the Offaly Hospice. However when over forty boats agreed to join the flotilla he set up the Banagher Boating Club. (email banagherboatingclub AT gmail DOT com) and web address banaghercruise.com.
Liam has been a keen boater for around twenty five years the last six of which have been spent on the Sea Wolf. Liam’s hobbies are boating, messing around on boats, painting boats (very reasonable rates), rescuing boats (Hannigan’s Boat Rescue Service 0874166845) and organising flotillas for boats. For the past five years Liam has also organised a Day Out for the children from Chernoble around July. He is also a certified Inland Waterways Skipper and regularly entertains people on Silverline’s River Queen during the summer months. If you wish to contact Liam his email address is liamcubahannigan AT gmail DOT com
Alan
Alan Casey is our Vice Chairman. Alan has only recently learned of this appointment but is keeping in touch with the latest hi tech equipment during breaks from his day job as a Seal Instructor in the Hebrides. It can take some time to decipher his instructions as they are in illegible code. (His training prevents him from sending legible instructions over the airways.) Most of his youth was spent lobster fishing in the Baring Sea and he has written numerous books on Lobster fishing in the Baring Sea in nasty Weather Conditions. Despite this he is actually a very nice man.
Alan can also be located on his boat Sea Moon and is a veteran canal navigator his speciality being the Barrow Line. Anyone with a particular interest in the Barrow Line should contact Alan and avail of his expert knowledge.
Michael
Michael Breathneach is our Events Manager. Michael has many years experience as a Community Arts Developer in Ballinasloe. He is also an accomplished Stilt Walker, Master Framer and Flag Maker. He has produced many drama productions and is a great judge of a pint. He can be seen on the waterways most weekends on his boat Mays Furz.
Mary
Mary Gallagher is our Activities Co-Ordinator. Mary has spent the last thirteen years fixing the engine on her barge 34m. (It took her ten years to actually understand the instructions) This year she gave up and bought a new engine. She has also completed a Barge handling Course for Complete beginners run by Liam Hannigan and is now keen to move the barge. She is presently scouring the internet for a new Insurance broker as her barge was allegedly involved in dislocating one of the lock gates during the Winter freeze and also allegedly upsetting a dredger. As soon as she locates a suitable broker she will be moving the barge. The Inland Waterways will be sending out a notification of this highly anticipated forthcoming event. When she is not in the engine room Mary likes painting pictures, playing the Mandolin, baking and co-ordinating activities.
